Who starts the conversation
Always the one texting first?
When it feels like every conversation starts with you, your chat can show how it really goes: who starts, and how quickly each of you replies. Side by side, counted on your device.

What your chat can show
The numbers behind the feeling
All of it is counted from your exported chat, in your browser.
Who starts conversations
Each person's share of the conversations and how many they started. A new conversation begins after six hours of quiet.
How fast each of you replies
Each person's average reply time, right next to their share, so starting less and answering quickly both show.
Who wrote last, and when
When each of you last sent a message, and how many messages each of you has written.
What the messages say
If you want more, the AI reads the chat itself and answers “Who puts more effort into this chat?” in plain words.
An example
Mia starts more. Leo replies faster.
Two made-up people, to show how to read the numbers. Mia starts about two thirds of their conversations; Leo usually answers within minutes. Neither number says who cares more.

Both, in different ways. Mia opens most conversations, often with a plan or a question about Leo's day. Leo starts fewer, but answers within minutes and asks the follow-up questions that keep a conversation going. If Mia would like Leo to reach out first more often, that's worth saying. The chat can't settle it for them.
Mia and Leo write most days: weekend plans, stories from work and a running joke about Leo's houseplants.
AI can misread context and irony. Take this as a fun perspective, not a verdict.
Honest limits
Who texts first isn't the whole story
The numbers show a pattern in one chat. They can't measure how much someone cares, and they can't tell you whether a friendship or relationship is one-sided.
People have different styles
Some people plan and reach out. Others rarely start but reply quickly and warmly. Both are part of keeping in touch.
Life happens outside the chat
Work hours, time zones, calls and time spent together don't show up in a WhatsApp export.
Patterns, not verdicts
A share of 70% describes what happened in this chat. What it means is yours to decide, and maybe to talk about.
A short chat says little
A few weeks or a few dozen conversations can tip either way. The longer the chat, the more the numbers mean.
Private by design
Your chat stays yours
Counted on your device
The numbers are worked out in your browser. Your chat isn't sent anywhere to count them.
Saved here, if you like
By default your chat is saved only on this device, so you can come back without a new upload. Tap “Don't keep” to undo that, or forget it whenever you like.
AI on your terms
With the on-device AI, your chat never leaves your device. The free cloud preview sends only anonymized excerpts (names replaced; phone numbers, emails, links and IBANs removed), and the AI provider doesn't train on them.
How to check your chat
- 1
Export the chat
In WhatsApp, open the chat, tap its name at the top, then “Export chat” and “Without media”.
- 2
Drop it in
Drop the file into the box at the top of this page, or pick it. It's read in your browser.
- 3
Read both numbers
Look at who starts and how fast each of you replies together. Ask the AI for the story behind them if you like.
Frequently asked questions
How can I tell if I'm always the one texting first?
Export the WhatsApp chat and drop it into the box on this page. It counts who wrote first in each conversation and shows each person's share next to how quickly they reply. A new conversation starts whenever someone writes after at least six hours of quiet.
Does always texting first mean it's a one-sided friendship?
Not on its own. Some people like to start conversations, others are better at answering, and work, time zones and time spent together matter too. The numbers help you see a pattern. Whether it feels fair is something only the two of you can work out.
What counts as starting a conversation?
The first message of the chat, and every message sent after at least six hours without any messages. Reply time is the average time each person takes to answer someone else, counting answers within a day.
Is my chat uploaded?
Not for the numbers: they're counted in your browser. Your chat is saved only on this device by default, and you can undo that. If you ask the AI, the on-device AI keeps everything on your device, and the free cloud preview sends only anonymized excerpts (names replaced; phone numbers, emails, links and IBANs removed). The AI provider doesn't train on them.
Does it work with friends, family and group chats?
Yes, with any WhatsApp chat you can export. In a group, everyone gets their own share of conversations started and their own reply time.
Is it free?
The numbers on this page are free and need no account. The AI reading is free on your device, and the cloud AI has a free preview. The full cloud report is part of WhatsAnalyze Pro (€9.99/month).
